Wonderful Works
Formed in 1985, Wonderful Works is a hands-on mission group of
15-20 women who serve the local community, needy communities
elsewhere in the world and the church. Women use their
sewing skills, create craft projects, and perform acts of
service out of love for others. Any woman who would enjoy
this kind of activity along with the wonderful fellowship
throughout the morning is invited to join.
The group meets on the first and third Thursdays, September to
May. Projects have included items such as: knitted caps
for babies, children, and adults, blankets, quilts, shawls, lap
robes, aprons, baby saques, stuffed animals, heart pillows for
breast cancer patients, walker caddies, Chrismons, Christmas
favors, table centerpieces, greeting cards, Biblical costumes,
puppet backdrops, and special baptismal dolls. Among our
completed projects for one year alone were: 125 Christmas
decorations, 75 caddies for walkers, 33 knitted caps/turbans, 3
afghans, 61 stuffed animals, 23 pillows for abused children, and
11 chair cushions.
These items have been distributed to: Rivers of the World, Crisis Nursery in Zambia, Africa, Brethren Service Center, local hospitals, Guest House, Edmondson-Telford Center, Gainesville Care Center, The Guest House, local nursing and retirement homes, and First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville.
You don't need to know how to sew to be of great help to Wonderful Works.
