For details about our Puppet Ministry, contact Julie Hartley or the church office.
This is a ministry to others but also a ministry within itself. We talk about the lessons taught in the skits and songs, we support and pray for each other, we learn Bible stories in a way we’ve never learned them before. The skits and songs are funny and entertaining. And teaching God’s Word to others is the best way to learn it yourself!
What kind of puppets do we use? The people puppets we use are called Big Mouth puppets. They are larger than your typical store bought puppets but not as big as say, Sesame Street puppets. We also use animal puppets, some are heads only, some are full body animals. We have several puppets that aren’t people or animals, like monsters, trees, lips, nonsense heads, fruits and vegetables etc. We also have puppets that glow under blacklight which are really fun! We even have puppets made with springs like slinkies!
In the past, the team has performed for not only our Children's Ministry in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, but for various other programs, such as the Tuesday Lunch Bunch, Mother-Daughter Birthday Offering Banquet, the Child Development Center, and Family Night Supper.
Up with Puppets also has taken the ministry to other churches, schools, shelters, and retirement homes. This ministry touches nearly every area of our church, including Evangelism, Outreach, Children's Ministries, Youth, Senior Adults, and Fellowship. Puppets have been around for ages, but churches are rediscovering that they are wonderful for many reasons. They provide people of all ages an outlet for acting even though they are shy. Puppets can teach in a way that is memorable for children and adults alike. And puppets are fun!
