CDC News

The Child Development Center at First Presbyterian Church was founded in 1957 and continues as an important part of our ministry and outreach to the community. As such, it is one of the leading child care facilities in Northeast Georgia.

Our staff is committed to providing high quality, full-day, developmental care for infants 6 weeks old through children 5 years of age (Pre-K). A program for school-age children is provided during the summer. Within the framework of a Christian atmosphere and in an attractive, safe environment, the Center provides individual and group learning experiences to assure the child’s progress toward the development of a strong Christian character and responsible citizenship.

In order to be whole, a child must develop spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Therefore, the Child Development Center blends attentive day care with educational opportunities in all areas of development.

For spiritual growth, the Center teaches Christian values and provides opportunities for worship each week during Chapel.

Each summer the children participate in Vacation Bible School.

For physical growth, the Center provides nutritious meals and snacks, age-appropriate health education, and opportunities to increase fine and gross motor skills.

For mental growth, the Center provides a curriculum of activities to develop language skills and to extend an understanding of the scientific world.

For social-emotional growth, the Center provides a safe, challenging playground; planned classroom centers with equipment for art, musical expression, and cooperative play; opportunities to establish and enjoy relationships with peers and adults.

We are blessed with wonderful dedicated staff. Most have been with the Center for many years, some as long as 12 –23 years. You will find our staff educated and well trained in the early childhood field. Our staff believes all children should be treated with love and respect.

Annual registration for the Child Development Center is held each spring, however, enrollment opportunities are available year round. Members of First Presbyterian Church are given an opportunity to register first, and then registration is opened to the rest of the community.

In celebration of Arbor Day and under the direction of the Flower Guild, the CDC planted two dogwoods in the church's Butterfly Garden.
