The Kingdom (Youth) Choir of First Presbyterian is an exciting organization meeting each Sunday night of the school year as part of a comprehensive Sunday night Youth Ministry. It is comprised of middle and high school students, grades 6 – 12, representing a variety of area schools. Their musical repertoire ranges from traditional classical works to gospel, jazz and contemporary sounds. The choir sings often for worship services as well as community events.

The Kingdom Choir this fall enters its third year of a special partnership with its counterpart from Gainesville’s First United Methodist Church. Both groups sing a common repertoire during the school year, and combine for a choir tour right after school is out in late May. The summer of 2009 saw the choir travel to Florida for concerts in historic St. Augustine churches, First Presbyterian in North Palm Beach, and a United Methodist Children’s Home in Central Florida. Of course, a little beach time was thrown into the tour schedule.

The 2010 eight day Capitol Tour took the choir to Washington, Baltimore and Annapolis over Memorial Day. Performances were given at Manassas Baptist Church, Bethesda Naval Hospital, the Naval Academy Chapel Sunday worship, Mount Vernon, Ft. McHenry, the Adams Morgan neighborhood, and Burke Presbyterian Church. We also visited the Old Presbyterian Meeting House, Arlington Cemetery, the Lovely Lane UMC, Baltimore Inner Harbor, and many museums and monuments. We enjoyed our stay on the waterfront of the West River Conference Center.

Plans for 2011 call for a tour centered in Coastal Carolina. Details will be available soon. The tour choir is expanding in number each year, but we are always glad to welcome more singers. Come and see what Sunday night at FPC can offer you!
