Sunday School Classes

First Presbyterian has a very active Sunday school program and would love to have you join us. Below is a listing of the ongoing groups who gather each Sunday morning:

Discovery
Looking for a class to help you learn more about our church?  The Discovery Class is an introduction class for new and prospective members. The class studies such topics as "What Do Presbyterians Believe?", "What is the Mission of First Presbyterian Church?", and "How Can I Get Involved in First Presbyterian Church?"  The class is led by Betty White and the Laity Team. The class runs for six weeks and repeats periodically throughout the year.  Call the church to learn when the next Discover Class begins.

Young Adults/College  Room 183
This is a new class for college age young adults through early career age, (about 28 or so). They gather in the Prayer Room near the gym/youth area.

Family Foundations Class  Room 184 (off Swetenburg Hall)
Wonderful for younger adults and parents with young children
This class covers the same Bible Stories being discussed by children in the K-5 Sunday School classrooms. The group is currently covering the book of Genesis. Shon Peppers leads this class which will help parents connect with the lessons their children are learning in church. Great food for discussion on the car ride home or at the dinner table.

Twenty to Life  Room 188
This class studies a variety of topics in depth, using both group discussion and lectures. This is a group for those who enjoy tackling controversial issues and who enjoy a stimulating exchange of ideas. Consisting of both couples and singles, the class welcomes persons of all ages to attend.  The class is led by Sam Harben and Mardi Morris.

Strugglers  Room 115
This class is involved in a systematic study of the Bible but also studies the works of outstanding Christian authors and encourages lively discussion. It consists primarily of senior adults, couples, and singles; however, all ages are welcome.  The class is led by John Melvin and Roe Callaway.

Rocks of All Ages  Parlor
This class is based on the study of the biblical passages found in the weekly sermons. The class format is discussion oriented and Bible study directed. This group consists of all ages of adults, both couples and singles, and is led by Rev. Paul Evans.

Mere Christianity  Room 186
This class uses a round table/discussion style of studying the Bible and current issues. A vital aspect of this class is its outreach ministry, within the congregation and in the community. All ages, both singles and couples, are welcome. The class is led by Mary Carden, Roscoe McMillan, Marshall Pennington.

G.I.F.T. (Growing in Faith Together)  Room 185
Members of the G.I.F.T. Class (Grow In Faith Together) participate in a discussion based class led by Wes Robinson, Tom Calkins and Scott Rutherford. This is a great class for families with school-aged children.

B.A.S.I.C. (Brothers And Sisters In Christ)  Room 109
B.A.S.I.C. is currently in an in-depth study of the Book of Revelation. The class is not only interested in gaining accurate biblical knowledge but in growing spiritually and learning a Christian life style. The class has a lively interest in world evangelization with an annual budget of approximately $17,500. The atmosphere is that of a large sharing group.  The class is led by Rev. Matt McGowan and Jack Spencer.
