Safe Haven

The Local SHVP was started at First Presbyterian by Mary Carden and Evelyn Williams in April 2007. Evelyn served as the first coordinator until March 2008. Since that time Mary Carden, the coordinator for the SHVP for the Northeastern Presbytery (which has 11 church based programs in this Presbytery) has been filling in as interim coordinator.

The SHVP provides trained volunteers to supervise visitation between children in foster care and their parents. The visitation occurs in the nursery and small children's Sunday School class rooms on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons. A Volunteer undergoes three hours of training and a criminal background check to be certified to supervise one visit each month.
