Shon Peppers Associate Pastor

Shon Peppers, Family Ministry Director
speppers@fpcga.org

Shon was born in Atlanta but has lived in Gainesville since he was four years of age . He is a 1994 graduate of Brenau University where he received a B.S. in Human Resource Management with a minor in History. Before Shon graduated from Columbia Theological Seminary where he earned an MDIV degree during a three year matriculation, he and his wife Lori served as House Parents at a ministry called Eagle Ranch for five years where they walked alongside young men and their hurting families as they worked toward family reunification with a Christ centered basis. Prior to that, Shon worked for United Parcel Service for eleven years and Lori was a stay at home mom until feeling led to go into full time ministry. Before UPS, Shon worked as a Hall County Deputy for a just over a year until enrolling into college full time. Shon also served as a Sergeant in the United States Army Reserves for six years and is very appreciative for that experience and his time of service in the military.

Shon’s hobbies include reading, fishing of any kind, fly tying, gardening, beekeeping, golfing, canoeing, camping and anything outdoors that is even remotely adventurous. His favorite hobby is spending time with his family and their three dogs, Bailey, a black Labrador retriever; Heidi, a Parson wired hair terrier and Kipper, a black terrier mix along with three cats: Mr. Floyd, Tobie and Tulla. They do all types of things together as a family but mostly just hang out and enjoy one another and their time together.

Shon has been on staff at First Presbyterian Church since August, 2009. His current area of responsibility is Family Ministry and sharing the love.

Lori has actively served young people and their families for a number of years. She and her husband, Shon, faithfully answered a call to be house parents at Eagle Ranch which further equipped the two of them to serve in ministry. Youth Ministry has been a wonderful extension of Lori’s willingness to follow God’s plan for her life and to share her spiritual gifts.  She is passionate about connecting and building very real relationships with young people so that God’s redeeming love can be shared and glorified. Her education includes undergraduate and graduate degrees in organ bethhunterand sacred music from Westminster College in Pennsylvania and Northwestern University. She is a certified Healing Harpist with the International Healing Music Program, and also has a great deal of experience with hand bells and carillons. From the beginning of her church music career in 1976, Beth has served four congregations in Dunedin and Clearwater, Florida, as well as in Jackson, Tennessee. As organist, she sees herself as a “Leader of the People’s Song.” She believes that “leadership comes from a place of inner strength and openness to the Holy Spirit. Music teaches our hearts to sing, to live with a gentle and caring spirit that is open and sensitive to others, and respects the dignity of each person. The song is one of unity as we join together in songs of joy, prayer, thankfulness, searching, longing, comfort, vision, glory, praise and of God’s great love for each of us.”

Beth and husband Jim reside in their mountain home near Otto, North Carolina, along with Jenny Kay, their rescue Cocker Spaniel.
