Prevent Child Abuse-Gainesville
Prevent Child Abuse-Gainesville is a 501C3 nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the community about recognizing and preventing child abuse. Their programs educate prenatal parents and parents who have children up to age 18, including parents mandated by DFACS, the court system, and those incarcerated. Classes include Positive Parenting (birth to age 9), Empower Parents (10-18), and Arroba Hispanic parenting programs. Most of these programs meet either at Lakewood Baptist Church or in the North Georgia Community Foundation building on Oak Street, where the agency has offices. Anti-Bullying programs are offered to elementary children through the YMCA. The agency also offers training on indicators of child abuse and neglect for mandated reporters.
In 2004, 1,183 substantiated cases of abuse and neglect were reported. Hall County ranks # 8 in the state for substantiated cases. Georgia ranks third in the nation in terms of the number of child maltreatment fatalities. The outreach committee provided $1875.00 in support of this agency last year.
